Cadiz [ French Serradella ]
05-10-2005
Cadiz French Serradella (Ornithopus sativus) is a soft-seeded Annual Legume with a semi-erect growth habit which becomes erect if left ungrazed. Cadiz is deep-rooted which enables it to produce herbage long after traditional pastures have dried off. This will also allow the plants to recover quickly after a long dry period compared to other shallow rooted legume species such as Sub-Clover. Cadiz is well-suited to a wide range of light to medium acid soils. It demonstrates better tolerance of free aluminium levels compared to many other legume species. Cadiz has early to mid season maturity and is well suited to low to medium rainfall environments. It demonstrates good aphid tolerance and lower susceptibility to Red Legged Earth Mite compared to Lucerne or Sub-Clover. Cadiz is palatable, non-bloating and suited to both hay and continuous grazing, once established, whilst providing the benefits of a disease break and nitrogen inputs into the soil profile. Cadiz can be used as a companion species with other hard seeded varieties such as Charano or Santorini to enhance seed reserves and long term persistence.

Erica [ French Serradella ]
05-10-2005
Erica French Serradella (Ornithopus sativus) is a moderately hard-seeded, Annual Legume with a prostrate growth habit which becomes semi-erect if left ungrazed. It was selected as a hard-seeded alternative to Cadiz French Serradella. Erica is deep-rooted which will enable it to produce herbage long after traditional pastures have dried off. This will also allow the plants to recover quickly after a long dry period compared to other shallow-rooted legume species such as Sub-Clover. Erica is well suited to a wide range of light to medium acid soils. It demonstrates better tolerance of free aluminium levels compared to many other legume species. Erica has early to mid season maturity and is well suited to low to medium rainfall environments. It demonstrates good aphid tolerance and lower susceptibility to Red Legged Earth Mite compared to Lucerne or Sub-Clover. Erica is palatable, non-bloating and suited to both hay and continuous grazing once established whilst providing the benefits of a disease break and nitrogen inputs into the soil profile. Erica is moderately hard-seeded and therefore will be suited for medium to long term pasture rotations. It has demonstrated that approximately 10% of the seed is germinable at maturity with a further 30% of the seed softening during the autumn period. The remainder of the seed will soften in subsequent seasons, which provides protection against false breaks and ensures long term persistence.

Margurita [ French Serradella ]
05-10-2005
Margurita French Serradella (Ornithopus sativus) is moderately hard-seeded, Annual Legume with a semi-erect growth habit which becomes erect during the spring period if left ungrazed. It was selected as a hard-seeded alternative to Cadiz French Serradella. Margurita is deep-rooted which will enable it to produce herbage long after traditional pastures have dried off. This will also allow the plants to recover quickly after a long dry period compared to other shallow-rooted Legume species such as Sub-Clover. Charano [ Yellow Serradella ]
05-10-2005
Charano Yellow Serradella (Ornithopus compressus) is a hard-seeded, Annual Legume with an erect growth habit selected as a superior replacement to Paros. Charano is deep-rooted which will allow it to produce herbage long after traditional pastures have dried off. This will also enable the plants to recover more quickly after a long dry period compared to other shallow rooted legume species such as Sub-Clover. Charano is well suited to a wide range of light to medium acid soils. It demonstrates higher tolerance of free aluminium levels, commonly found in acid environments, compared to many other legume species.Charano is well suited to low rainfall environments and demonstrates good aphid tolerance and lower susceptibility to Red Legged Earth Mite compared to Lucerne and Sub-Clover. It is well suited to rotational grazing or set stocking whilst providing the benefits of a disease break and nitrogen inputs into the soil profile. Charano is very hard-seeded and therefore well suited to long-term pasture or cereal rotations. Pasture stands can be sown with either pure seed or in a pod form. It is suggested that when sowing Charano as a pasture stand for the first time, pure seed should be used, as germination from pods is poor.

Santorini [ Yellow Serradella ]

Santorini Yellow Serradella (Ornithopus compressus) is a hard-seeded, Annual Legume with an erect to semi-erect growth habit selected as a superior replacement to Madeira. Santorini is deep-rooted which will enable it to produce herbage long after traditional pastures have dried off. This will also allow the plants to recover quickly after a long dry period compared to other shallow-rooted legume species such as Sub-Clover. Santorini is well-suited to a wide range of light to medium acid soils. It demonstrates higher tolerance of free aluminium levels, commonly found in acid environments, compared to many other legume species.
