About Seedmark
Headquartered in Adelaide, South Australia, Seedmark is one of the most respected seed companies in the Southern Hemisphere.
The company currently produces in excess of 90 individual proprietary seed varieties and over 40 common seed varieties. We successfully market these not only in Australia but also in over 70 countries and boast one of the most substantial, professional and dedicated teams of seed growers globally.
We are certainly proud of these achievements, but we also recognise they are a product of continued hard work, innovation, creativity, and a constant ambition to do things better for the seed industry.
At Seedmark, seed quality is an absolute production commitment, not just a marketing cliché, and that is because we know it translates into genetic purity, higher germination, better establishment, increased productivity and improved overall efficiency.
Logistics excellence is also something that stands behind everything we do. As timing becomes more critical, OH&S and government regulations increase, and weather conditions become more uncertain, we know that superior supply chain management becomes an ever increasing imperative.
A further contributor to our global track record and growth is our continual focus on Seed Research, Development and Extension.
A primary goal of this pivotal work is to facilitate our diversification into completely new seed product groupings. Customers and growers alike are constantly seeking new opportunities and it is Seedmark's role to identify, develop and deliver those opportunities. Likewise, new and improved versions of existing seed varieties are always under development, keeping the product pipeline open and delivering on our philosophy of continuous improvement.
Seed in Australia
Seedmark's professional, dedicated and full time grower team is among the best and the largest in the world, with many of them also being shareholders in our company.
The South-East of South Australia is our primary production area for pasture seed due to the inherent seed production advantages that the region offers. With a Mediterranean climate, access to irrigation water and suitable soil types, the South-East has a distinct seed commercialisation advantage in the growth of high quality, reliable and cost competitive seed. Other areas where Seedmark have significant pasture production capabilities include the Mid North of South Australia, Western Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. This geographical spread delivers to our customers the added reliability of supply.
When focussing on Field Crop, production is spread across all states where seed is also marketed and sold, allowing for logistical ease, maximising supply and minimising time to market. Seedmark has an excellent group of “year on year” production growers in all areas that consistently deliver high quality seed in order to meet the expectations of our business.
Across these many differing production zones, Seedmark currently produce in excess of 90 individual proprietary varieties and over 40 common varieties.
Seedmark History
Seedmark’s origins lie in the formation of Seedco – The South Australian Seed Growers Cooperative. This farmer owned cooperative was formed in 1964 with a membership of 35 seed growers in South Eastern Australia. Membership today currently exceeds 500 growers. Originally formed to market seed production of the grower members, Seedco’s primary goals were to provide an orderly trading platform, control seed supplies , develop branding of products , align production with demand, and deliver seed effectively and efficiently.
In 2003 Seed Technology & Marketing Pty Ltd (“Seedmark”) was formed as a joint venture between Seedco and PlantTech who was at the time Seedco’s largest domestic customer. Seedmark subsequently acquired PlantTech in late 2009.
